This is me (on left!) and our vibrant 1 yr old dog ‘Cookie’ (looks like a character …a wookie if I ever saw one—who’s in charge??? thirsty?)…and of course the beautiful alps and chalet in background—

Mustela erminea….a winter stoat…(cousin of ferret???)
This little fellow peeped out at me from its snowy burrow on the terrasse of our real chalet in the alps. I didn’t take this picture but it was exactly like this.

Hi Jen, thanks for the pictures. Where exactly were you? Looks fantastic! You refer to Cookie as a wookie. Is that a Star Wars thing? One of my mates has a puppy and she has named him Chewy after Chewbacca (spelling??) the shaggy, redish, hairy one in the Star Wars movies.

oh yeah…..that’s his name…I couldn’t remember. In Richard’s books one of his characters calls the other ‘wookie’ and I thought of that immediately….yes, Chewbacca.

We were in Switzerland in the Valais (swiss romand.)(.French side) . It’s our place but we rent out to people if anyone here is ever interested. We have a 7 hr drive from Belgium—great relaxing place. Joins the ski slopes, good ski touring to do too..or just a great snow walk place. Cows are in fields come May with their huge bells clanging. Sheep too and goats. and tons of crickets and wildflowers in Summer.

Gorgeous retreat Jennifer! Thank you for sharing your photos! What a delightful little creature. He really needs to pay a visit to the Ferret Books I think.

Jennifer – welcome back. Dead envious about the skiing – this is the second year we’ve not gone and really missing it! The pictures are lovely.

How’s the moving going Deb?
There are a lot of people from the UK at our resort…where do you go ski?

Wolf….i just had a funny idea of putting a bandana around Cookie’s neck…think he’d make a good sidekick for Monty….

Sure enough, your little ermine is not rodent but mustelid, close winter cousin to ferrets, indeed. Stilton Ferret’s company is MusTelCo: after mustelid telecommunicatons corporation. You probably saw a rather small but elegant executive jet transport at the aerodrome, Jenniferl it was Stilton’s. He flies kits in from around the world for ski lessons.

I’ll need to pay attention not to trip over any ferret skis! But then again don’t want to ruin the plans of the angel ferrets at work. Problably not too much chance at meeting Strobe up on the mountain? Perhaps he hangs out at the Swiss diner down there at the aerodrome…..

Hi Jennifer -re the move – surrounded by chaos but getting there! thanks for asking.
Skiing – Canada is probably been favourite, also Norway, France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, – we even tried Scotland once! (That was an experience – we’re really not geared up for it over here….!)

Wow, looks wonderful, Jennifer! I love the Alps… You drive through France, I guess? You´ll have to consider making a detour via south-west Germany next time – I´ll have coffee and cookies ready!
