thought capacitor

Here is my abridged version of a story I once read about how visualization worked in someone’s life.

There was once a struggling young lady who stumbled upon the idea of a “dream book”, and she was so excited she went home and made one. Basically, a dream book is similar to a scrap book in that you include pictures (cut-outs from magazines, camera photos, pictures you draw, etc.) and words, but instead of memories, it contains images of the future you desire. So for this dream book, she eagerly cut up some old magazines, and included a picture of a handsome man standing next to her favorite sports car, a picture of Hawaii, and a picture of a highly successful business woman. That night she used those pictures she had cut out to help visualize those very things happening in her life. The next day she was driving down a 2 lane highway and passed a lone sports car with a male driver going the other way. She didn’t think anything of it, until he actually turned his car around and signaled for her to pull off the road. She asked what was wrong, but it turned out he was attracted to her in the moment of passing; long story short, they got married and went on a honeymoon to Hawaii. Soon after she got promoted to CEO of the company she worked for.

I can’t remember where read this, and it certainly sounds like a fairy tale, but at the same time I don’t doubt the message one bit.

So, how has visualization and imagining yourself in the future you want worked for you? Have you tried it and it didn’t work? Will you make a dream book, if you haven’t already? Any other thoughts on this, please share.

LOL…the man picking up the female in the car..too funny…anyway…
Yes I believe very strongy in whatever that power is in ourselves. Visualization takes concerted effort and a very clear intent and mind. I think it is most accurate when the person is in our forum’s frame of mind–open, ready to receive. Like I had said on one post that I won the tombola last week. It is because of the power of the minds here and mine all together. I .never read anything on it just felt that it is easier for me to concentrate on a picture or image that I see and then make it happen. Actually, don’t need visual image external can use image internal…like from a book, or something..then whop,…it’s there. Been all my life. That’s why it is so important to always be in the positive light, positive everything….for me…cause it works the other way too…

Thought capacitor, thanx for the topic, this is one of my favourite subject.
Some positive examples of my past:
3 years ago I really wanted to go to Austria before Christmas, since I love the atmosphere of Christmas markets there, and the high mountains covered by snow. If I have the chance I always make a trip to Austria in December.
That year I knew that the best way I could solve this “problem” if I won a competition. I played 2-3 online games, and I was really-really sure that I would win a trip to Austria. Every day I said to my colleague (who was in the same office with me) that I was sure to win. I just visualized everything, and was really sure about it.
And I won! A 4 days trip to Austria in a beautiful hotel with my husband.

Next year I found a competiton at Lidl (supermarket) leaflet – if I take a funny picture of my Lidl Christmas, I could win a trip to Munich Christmas market. Since I love photography, I turned to my husband and say, “I’m sure I will win this competition”! When my collegaues asked me time to time if I visit the Christmas market in London this year, my answer was that:” No, because I will win the trip to a German market! ”
And I won! :) They found my picture 1 of the 4 most funniest among the UK competitors (they had 4 winner).
So these are some examples of the power of visualization and faith.

Ahhh… the mythology is so compelling in the dreams of want and desire.

Consider all the outcomes of the vision. Find peace in any of them. That is where the great reconciling truth and contentment resides.

The power of visualization, while staying present in each moment, is nicely demonstrated here:

Hi Drew, I’m with Christina on this one. Woa…thank you. I know we have that power over the mind, I just wish I knew how to access it. Glenice

I’ll jump in too. I’m with Christina and Glenice. Whoa. I nearly had a stroke watching that, had to skip forward. I consider myself a pretty ok visualizer but I would like to be able put more “oomph” behind it….It seems like the stuff I DON’T care about comes forward to the material world.

Okay Glenice, Here’s a post-tantrum shot in the dark. You’ll have to excuse me if it’s been covered somewhere in another post at this site. Perhaps, once the thought form/suggestion has been sent to the higher mind, the higher mind takes it on as a pet project setting the wheels in motion. If the conscious mind overworks itself to to compete with the higher mind it “clogs the pipes” and nothing happens. If I let go of an idea the higher mind maps the closest route point A to point B type of thing and the bloomin’ thing happens! My best guess……….. :-?

wolfranch1, it is a great explanation of the visualization that helped me a bit more understand it.
I actually have the same problem as Glenice. Things that I really want, imagine and hope for don’t come true. While the ones I don’t really care about come true.

So I guess it’s all about letting go and leaning on the Universe. I’ll have to practice that because it is really not easy.

Dianne and Maija – I have spent the bulk of the day exploring this site (I’ve had a ball!) and if you check out the ‘Liar in your head’ section you will find help.

Your thoughts create your reality. What I need to do is get rid of the ‘yes but’ and the ‘what if’ negative stuff that comes straight after I think This is what I would like in my life. I am reversing it all on myself.

Christina has put some videos on the site – check them out. cheers G

Some thoughts on the stick sculptor, in no particular order:

1) He has practiced this, many times.
2) The overall performance is directed toward a conscious goal.
3) As many steps in the process as are possible to carefully consider are considered. This is done by the conscious mind and through learning by practice (the location of the sticks, the order of their assembly, etc.)
4) Once the performance begins, the active mind is quiet. The zone of the performer, and the focus of that zone is one. Each stick that he reaches to grab becomes literally part of his person (through proprioception and assimilation). The mind is expanded outward to include all of the sticks placed into the array.
5) The mental focus (beyond the active mind) during the performance is with the higher mind’s eye, which sees the whole of the space, performer and sticks, including the immediate factors that cannot be planned for (the subtle air currents at the time of the performance inside the theatre, etc.)
6) Although there is a goal in mind, which is well and consciously planned, each step of the performance is done in the present (without future projections of achieving the ultimate goal). The performer is not aware of the time it takes to perform this while performing.
7) At any stage, the performer accepts all outcomes without fear, he is focused only on each NOW that streams forward in series.
8) The eventual outcome is delivered and made real by each step taken in the present.
